When date fields are required for the user to select date it would be helpful to distinguish between the default value and the user entered one. In the first case the field can be marked as required. Currently even if the source value is “” or null the editor shows ‘Jan 1, 1970’ date.
There are 2 problems with this. The field shows a value that the user did not select. The second, is that users are forced to do a lot of year scrolling to get to the more recent years. It would be more intuitive not to show any value in the field at all and have a flag that the field is clean.
When the date widget opens and the field is in the clean state the visible date could be determined by the minimum date set on the editor.
This brings me to the second issue. Even though min/max are available on the standard DatePicker i can’t find how to do set them on the DataForm field with the DatePicker editor. Is it possible and how?
Alternatively, is there another way to handle required date entry?
