I’m wanting to do something that I have to believe other folks have done. Namely, use a sqlite database, but download one from the web if a newer one exists. To do this I figured I’d issue an http HEAD request and examine the Last-Modified header field. But, my particular server only sets Last-Modified for some files. For .txt files, yes, but for .html or (more importantly) .db files, no. I’m guessing this is an apache server setting ('tho I haven’t found it, and have a question on StackOverflow), but it may be there’s simply a better way to do this.
Assuming this problem has been solved many times before, what’s the preferred approach?
